Types of Sealants

A sealant, sealer or filler is a viscous material that changes to a solid state once applied and is used to prevent the penetration of air, gas, noise, dust, fire, smoke or liquids from one location to another through the barrier. sealed.

On this occasion we differentiate three large groups into which they can be classified.

Silicone sealants: they are developed for: structural sealing on façades, structures, curtain walls, etc.; as a secondary seal on double or insulated glass; thermal expansion joints in concrete roads; butt joints and perimeter seals; in the union between different materials (concrete and glass, concrete and metal, concrete with glass, glass with metal, glass with glass, etc.).

Acrylic sealants: They use the polymers obtained from acrylic acid as a base for their manufacture. They are used as a sealant for connection joints, around windows, doors, PVC pipes, domes, etc., or cracks with very low movements, indoors and outdoors, they can also be placed as a filler in interior and exterior cracks (they cannot be permanently immersed in water).

Polyurethane sealants: They are made with polyurethane (a polymer obtained through the condensation of hydroxyl bases combined with diisocyanates) and specially designed to seal joints and cracks with strong and moderate movements in walls, hardware, cisterns, door frames and between prefabricated elements.

LEGATEC has a variety of types of polyurethane sealants according to the different uses that they want to give them.

Some of them are detailed below:

MASTERSEAL® NP 1 is a high-performance, primer-less, spray-on, one-component sealant.

Advantages: Ready to use, provides excellent flexibility, speeds up production, weather resistant, compatible with non-rigid coatings, can be painted etc.

Its use is recommended indoors and outdoors, below and above ground level, immersion in water, covering walls, aluminum window frames, wood, ceilings, facades.

LEGASEAL® AP33 is a petroleum derivative obtained through an oxidation process of asphalt bases.

Uses: taken from expansion joints of rigid and articulated pavements. Membrane bonding, pipe protection.

Regarding its advantages: it is resistant to draining and deformation at high temperatures, has good adhesiveness, adequate durability and is economical.

LEGASEAL® SA50 is an elastomeric asphalt sealant made from the modification of selected asphalt cements. It is characterized by its use mainly in pavements, sealing expansion joints in concrete, repairing fissures and cracks in pavement and sealing joints in industrial floors. It is one-component, has great elasticity, elastic recovery, and high adhesion to concrete. It is also fast hardening, excellent flexibility and high resistance to aging.

PROCEPOXI® PRIMER 1 is a low-viscosity epoxy system, with solvents, that easily penetrates concrete or cement mortar surfaces, to which it fixes and seals.

Uses: improves the adhesion of all types of mortars. Varnish of considerable hardness that also preserves the appearance of the metals.

As for the advantages, it allows reducing the consumption of finishing products. Applied on floors coated with epoxy or cement mortars. Adheres to ceramics, wood, iron and bronze.
